SHREVEPORT – The Centenary men’s basketball team and head coach Greg Gary have announced the signing of 5’11” guard Mitch Marquis (Tyler, Texas) to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday.

Marquis averaged 14 points and nine assists per game last season, while also helping White House High School to the Texas 4A Regional. The Tyler, Texas, native was also named District 12-4A most valuable player last season.

“I am extremely happy to have Mitch and his family become a part of our program,” said Gary. “He exudes the type of leadership, toughness and dedication needed to bring the program back to success.”

Since becoming a member of the varsity team, Marquis is 90-11 as a starter and he has averaged 11 points and nine assists a game. Marquis is also getting close to breaking the all-time assists record in the state of Texas.

Marquis also had scholarship offers from Louisiana-Monroe, Hawaii, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Santa Clara and Texas-Arlington.

“I love what coach Gary is doing with the program and with the offense, where he likes to move the ball around,” said Marquis. “He loves people who like to get after it and that’s the type of basketball I like to play.”
