Ladies Roll into Tuscaloosa Friday Night
Thursday, November 13, 2008

SHREVEPORT – The climb towards the top will begin on Friday evening when the Centenary women’s basketball team travels to Alabama for a 5 p.m. tip-off. This will be the first game for both teams, and the Ladies (4-25) and Crimson Tide (8-22) are looking to improve last season’s records.

Centenary has never played Alabama before, but the Ladies have played against SEC schools five times. Most recently, Centenary traveled to Mississippi State last season and lost 76-57, but was led by Cierra Bush’s 16 points.

The Ladies will have the bulk of their team back, as they return all five starters, which includes Anne Farrell who was named LSWA Freshman of the Year and to The Summit League all-newcomer team.

The Crimson Tide, meanwhile, started last season 8-8, but lost 14 straight games to end the year. However, Alabama does welcome back its leading scorer from a year ago, sophomore Tierney Jenkins, who averaged 11.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

Alabama had two preseason contests this fall, the first was an intrasquad game and the second was an exhibition contest against West Alabama. The Crimson Tide won their exhibition game 76-49 behind Jenkins’ 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Friday’s game can be heard on 91.3 KSCL and www.GoCentenary.com with the pregame show starting at 4:45 p.m. The Ladies will return to the floor on Tuesday, when they host Louisiana-Monroe for a 7 p.m. start in the newly renovated Gold Dome.
