SHREVEPORT—While facing the competitive top seeded North Dakota State Bison, the Centenary women’s volleyball team was held to three straight sets on Friday night in Summit League play (12-25, 9-25, 13-25).

Centenary (4-25, 0-15) was led by freshman Christina Golden with five kills while freshman Brianna Kern finished the night with eight digs.

In the first set, the Ladies battled the Bison jumping ahead on a service error to begin the match, but couldn’t hold a lead from then on as a lopsided team attack proved to be the key as Centenary put up only four kills compared to NDSU’s 18. Offensively in this set, the Ladies were led by Golden with two kills and freshman Jaclyn Lopez’s three assists.

To start game two, Lopez gave Centenary a service ace, but the Ladies handed the Bison their missed point right back on a NDSU kill. Again, the Ladies struggled to gain momentum along with failing to execute issuing 11 service errors. The Bison’s strong offensive attack with 11 kills held Centenary’s offense to only three.

The third and final set didn’t favor the Ladies, again, as the Bison pounded out 16 kills led by NDSU’s Chrissy Knuth’s 10 kills on the night. Centenary was held near the end on an 8-0 run by the Bison proving to seal the deal.

Centenary will close the season out with its final conference match against South Dakota State on Sunday at 3 p.m. where senior Ashlee Freeman will be honored between sets two and three.
