SHREVEPORT – Looking for its first win of the season, the Centenary men’s basketball team will face Troy University on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. and Northwestern State on Friday at 4 p.m. in the LSU Classic held in Baton Rouge.

Centenary (0-2) enters Thursday’s game against Troy after suffering a tough 90-55 loss to the Baylor Bears on Tuesday. Junior guard Chase Adams led the way for the Maroon and White with 12 points and four assists. Freshman teammate Daman Starring added nine along with five rebounds while sophomore Anthony Gatlin had eight and five rebounds.

The Gents hope to get the ball rolling, heading into the LSU Classic, as first opponent Troy University (0-2) remains winless as well. Centenary and Troy have not met on the hardwood since 1999 when Troy defeated Centenary 76-67 at Trojan Arena. However, the Gents hold a 2-1 all-time win-loss record over the Trojans.

Troy is coming off a 107-95 loss to UNC-Wilmington on Monday. Offensively, the Trojans placed five in double figure-scoring led by Richard Delk’s 19 points. Travis Lee added 15, Regis Huddleston had 13; Tom Jervis contributed with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Brandon Hazzard chipped in with 11.

On Friday of the LSU Classic, the Gents and NSU Demons will face off in an I-49 rivalry where the Gents secure an all-time win-loss record of 83-68 since 1921. The last time these two teams met was last season when Centenary handed NSU a 105-90 loss in the Gold Dome. Nick Stalling had 23 points and seven assists in the win.

NSU (1-1) enters the matchup against Centenary with an 87-65 win over East Texas Baptist University on Tuesday. Jeremiah Pojah led the Demons with 11 points and nine rebounds while teammate James Morman chipped in with 11 and six rebounds.
