SHREVEPORT – The Centenary women’s basketball team will be on the road for five of its next six games beginning on Friday in Huntsville, Texas. The Ladies will be hosted by Sam Houston State at 7 p.m., and on Sunday, Centenary will travel to Louisiana-Lafayette for a 2 p.m. tip-off.

The Ladies are looking for their first win of the season, after falling to Louisiana-Monroe on Tuesday, 76-60. Centenary was led by senior Cierra Bush, who had a game-high 16 points, while super sophomore’s Anne Farrell and Ashley Jackson followed with 13 and 12 points respectively.

Against SHSU last season, junior Bethany Joseph scored a career-high 26 points and tied the school record for 3-point field goals in a game with six. In that game, Centenary went up by 27 midway through the final period, but a furious comeback by the Bearkats got their deficit down to eight with 35 seconds left. However, the Ladies did hang on for the 74-62 victory.

Against the Ragin’ Cajuns last year, Centenary got itself into a huge hole, but the Ladies were able to climb out. Centenary was down by 17 but it got down to two on a bucket by sophomore Sarah Weiler. The Ladies though could not get any closer, as they fell 78-71.

SHSU will go into Friday’s game 0-2 after dropping its last game to Arkansas-Little Rock, 81-51. The Bearkats shot 40 percent in the game, but committed 26 turnovers and only had one in double figures, Brittany Brooks, who had 11.

Louisiana, meanwhile, opened the season with a 51-39 loss to Texas Southern and the Ragin’ Cajuns also dropped their Wednesday night game to Ole Mississippi 74-48. ULL will also host Mercer on Friday, and then the Ladies will close out the Ragin’ Cajuns three-game homestand Sunday.

Both of the games this weekend will be broadcast on and live video and stats will also be available on SHSU and ULL’s website.
