Not a Good Offensive Showing for Ladies
Saturday, December 6, 2008

FARGO, ND. – Sophomore Jasmine Bothwell tied her career-high with 10 points, but it wasn’t enough for the Centenary women’s basketball team, as the Ladies fell to North Dakota State, 87-40, on Saturday in Summit League play.

It was the worst possible way for Centenary (1-7, 0-2) to start, shooting 0-for-8, while NDSU was lights out, hitting 6-of-10.  The Bison opened the game on a 20-0 run, which was helped four 3-point field goals.

However, the Ladies defense got stingy and the offense began to click as the first half went on. Centenary went on an 11-4 run, which was started with sophomore Anne Farrell’s second free throw and the defense limited NDSU (3-3, 1-0) to just a pair made field goals.

As good as the Ladies began to play, they still really had no defensive answer for NDSU’s Inger Hodgson, who was 6-of-6 from the field, 4-for-4 from outside and scored 16 points, which tied her career-high.

NDSU lit the Bison Sports Arena on fire, shooting 16-of-26 in the first half, while Centenary was as cold as the air outside, connecting on 6-of-20. For Centenary, Bothwell led the Ladies’ offensive effort with six points.

The second half didn’t start any better for Centenary, after freshman Beth Alberson hit a 3-point field goal at 18:25, the offense went stagnant for six minutes. During that time NDSU scored nine points and was led by Katie Birkel, who had six.

Midway through the second half NDSU went on 10-1 run ice the game, and to go up by 40.  During that time the Ladies only good basket came on a free throw by freshman Chelsea Johnson, who scored four points.

Overall, Centenary shot 22 percent (10-of-45) from the field, 21 percent (4-of-19) from outside, while NDSU torched the Ladies for 56 percent (30-for-53) from the field and 61 percent (8-of-13) from outside.

The next action for Centenary will be on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when the Ladies host Nicholls State. The game will be heard on www.GoCentenary.com and 91.3 FM KSCL, while live stats will also be available.
