SHREVEPORT— The Centenary men’s basketball team will take its first few days of the holiday break to Manhattan, Kan., to face non-conference foe Kansas State on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off. This game will be the second time the Gents play an opponent from the Big 12, as they battled Baylor earlier this season.

Centenary (2-9) comes into this game after dropping a 77-71 contest to I-20 rival Louisiana Tech last Saturday at the CenturyTel Center. Against the Bulldogs, the Gents were led by senior Nick Stallings who poured in a game-high 25 points, while pulling down six rebounds. Sophomores Gary Redus II and Anthony Gatlin scored 18 and 11 points respectively.

On the season, Stallings continues to pace the Gents in both scoring and rebounding, as the Houston, Texas, native averages 16.5 ppg and 6.5 rebounds per game. Junior teammate Chase Adams consistently contributes to the offense pouring in 14.1 ppg and dishing out nearly five assists per game, and he also remains atop The Summit League in steals, averaging 2.6 per contest.

Kansas State (7-3) is coming into the match-up with Centenary having won two straight non-conference games against Southern Mississippi and Gardner-Webb. The Wildcats added to their win column after dismantling Gardner-Webb, 107-48, last Sunday on their home court. In that game, four Wildcats scored in double figures led by Denis Clemente and Jamar Samuels who each scored 20 in the win.

Jacob Pullen leads Kansas State averaging 15.1 ppg, while Clemente and Samuels add 12.5 and 10.4 ppg, respectively to its offense. As a team, the Wildcats lead the Big 12 conference in offensive rebounds with 15.9 a contest.

Centenary and Kansas State have only met once on the hardwood, back in the 1982-83 season with the Wildcats defeating the maroon and white 65-58.

Following Saturday’s game, the Gents will head to Texas Tech on Tuesday to battle the Red Raiders in non-conference action at 7 p.m.
