Ladies Restart Conference Play Saturday

SHREVEPORT – The Centenary women’s basketball team will try to accomplish something they never have done before, beat Oral Roberts. The Ladies and Golden Eagles will battle it out on the court Saturday at 2:05 p.m. in Tulsa.


Centenary lost a 74-72 nail-bitter to McNeese State its last time out, but was led by sophomore Ashley Jackson, who had 21 points and 12 rebounds, while classmate Anne Farrell also scored in double figures, chipping in with 14.   


Farrell, who has scored 119 points this season now has 463 for her career, which ranks 10th all-time in the Ladies’ record books. The Tulsa, Okla., native also has 304 career rebounds and is just 13 boards from cracking the top 10.


The Ladies and Golden Eagles have met 10 times in five seasons. However, ORU holds a 10-0 all-time record over Centenary. In the first meeting the Ladies lost by one, but since the then games have not been close. The Golden Eagles have beaten the Ladies by an average of 26 points.


ORU started the season 5-1, but has since gone 2-5 in its last seven games, which includes falling to South Dakota State and North Dakota State early in December. However, the Golden Eagles have won two of their last three games, defeating South Carolina Upstate and Sam Houston.


Leading the way for ORU is Janae Voelker, who scores 17.5 points per game and pulls down 10.1 rebounds a contest. Also playing well offensively for the Golden Eagles is Georgia Jones and Amy Pryor, who score 12.6 and 10.2 points per game respectively.


Centenary and ORU’s game will be broadcast on and 91.3 KSCL with the pregame show beginning at 1:45 p.m. Following the game with the Golden Eagles, Centenary will play NCAA New Orleans Regional semifinalist Oklahoma State on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
