Saturday, January 3, 2009

TULSA, Okla. – Junior Natasha Draganic scored a career-high 10 points, but an off shooting night by the Centenary women’s basketball team lifted Oral Roberts to a 95-42 victory on Saturday in Summit League play.

21 turnovers and 5-of-21 shooting was the doom for Centenary (2-11, 0-3) in the first half, as it fell in a 40-14 halftime hole. ORU, meanwhile, shot a blistering 15-of-32 from the field and was also 4-of-6 from long range.

ORU (8-6, 1-2) was also able to grab eight of the Ladies offensive opportunities, which turned into 14 points. The Golden Eagles also dominated in the paint, scoring 18 points, while Centenary couldn’t get a bucket to fall inside.

Leading the Ladies at the half was sophomore Jasmine Bothwell, who scored four points and grabbed four rebounds. Individually, the Golden Eagles were led by Georgia Jones, who had 14 points, while Janae Voelker pulled down a team-best five rebounds.

The second half wasn’t much better for Centenary, as ORU opened the period shooting a perfect 7-of-7 from the field. The Ladies though still couldn’t find their offensive stroke, as they could only score eight points in the first eight minutes.

Scoring down low and making Centenary play for its mistakes continued to be the story for the Golden Eagles. ORU scored 40 points in the paint and 35 off of the Ladies mistakes.

Also leading Centenary’s offense was Bothwell and freshman Beth Alberson, who each scored seven points. For the Golden Eagles, Jones led all scores with 20, while Voelker and Jordan Pyle followed with 19 and 15 points respectively.

Up next for Centenary will be a trip to Oklahoma State on Tuesday, with tip-off set to go up at 6:00 p.m. The game can be heard on and 91.3 KSCL in Shreveport/Bossier.
