SHREVEPORT – The Centenary women’s basketball team’s defense will have to play on its toes on Saturday when IPFW, The Summit League’s top ranked 3-point shooting team comes to the Gold Dome for a noon tip-off. Then on Monday the Ladies will try to play bad host to Oakland, the conference’s top scoring team.

Centenary’s offense has been stagnant in its last two contests, averaging just 49.5 points per game. The Ladies defense, meanwhile, hasn’t played much better in those same two games, allowing 97.5 points.

Playing well in recent week has been sophomore Ashley Jackson, who in her last three games averages 11 points and five rebounds. Junior Leslie Forest has also played well in her last four games, as she has grabbed 25 rebounds with a season-high nine coming against Oklahoma State.

The Mastodons come into Saturday’s game having dropped six straight games and have only once in eight tries. IPFW lost its last nonconference game to Iowa State on Wednesday, 84-57, with Sarah Haluska scoring a team-best 13 points.

Oakland, who returns all five starters from a year ago, tops the conference in scoring with 70.5 points per game. Topping the Golden Grizzlies offense is Jessica Pike, who scores 15.2 points a contest, while Melissa Jeltema leads the team with 8.2 rebounds per game.

Both games can be heard on 91.3 KSCL and www.GoCentenary.com with the pregame show starting at 11:45 a.m. Saturday. Following this weekend’s action, Centenary will travel to Indianapolis and Macomb, Ill., for a pair of Summit League games.
