Joseph and the Amazing Ladies down ORU
Saturday, January 31, 2009

SHREVEPORT – Junior Bethany Joseph had just four first half points, but her barrage of 3’s late in the final period propelled the Centenary women’s basketball team to a 67-56 win over Oral Roberts on Saturday afternoon.

The first 20 minutes was a slow start for both teams, as neither squad could find its offensive niche. Centenary (4-17, 2-8) grabbed an early one point lead off of a junior Leslie Forest lay-up, but ORU quickly answered back with a 5-0 run.

However, the Ladies didn’t allow the Golden Eagles to pull away any further in the first half. Centenary was able to tie the game at 13 on a junior Natasha Draganic three, but again ORU (11-10, 4-6) retook a five point lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Golden Eagles went up by nine with over 12 minutes remaining, but Centenary never allowed it to get out of hand. The Ladies would finally heat up and go on an 18-3 run, which was started by sophomore Ashley Jackson’s bunny.

During their run the Ladies were led by Jackson’s five points, while they also grabbed six rebounds.

To ice the game, Joseph would hit three three’s in three minutes to help give Centenary a 12 point margin. The Ladies were able to take their largest lead of 13 twice during the final moments, both times after a Joseph free throw.

For the game, Joseph scored a season-high 17 points, while Jackson and senior Karolina Zaloga tacked on 16 and 14 points respectively. For ORU, Maria Camargo scored a game-best 22 points and Janae Voelker added 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Centenary will next see the floor on Saturday at Oakland before traveling down I-69 to Fort Wayne, Ind., to play IPFW on Monday. Both games will be heard on and 91.3 KSCL.
