Two-Game Road Trip Begins at IPFW for Gents

SHREVEPORT—After completing a successful three game home stand last week, the Centenary men’s basketball team will head to Fort Wayne, Ind., to face IPFW on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Summit League play.


Centenary (7-15, 5-5 Summit) currently sits in fourth place in the league heading into Thursday’s game against the Mastodons. In their last contest, the Gents fell short to Oral Roberts, 84-71 on Saturday in the Gold Dome. Gary Redus II scored a career-high 23 points, while Chase Adams dished out a season-best nine assists.


Guards Nick Stallings, Adams, and Redus have controlled the tempo of late, while forward Lance Hill has played big down low for the Gents in the last few games. Stallings’ 16.4 points and 6.2 rebounds a game leads Centenary, meanwhile, Adams and Redus are chipping in with 14.5 and 10.6 points each contest.


As a team, Centenary is shooting 40 percent from the floor and averaging just over 63 points a game. It continues to lead the league in steals per game with 9.0 and three-point field goals made with 8.0 each contest.


IPFW (8-14, 3-8 Summit) hosts the Gents after taking a 74-43 loss at North Dakota State in its last game. David Carson led all scores with 22 points, but IPFW was held to just 35 percent shooting from the floor. The Mastodons haven’t faired well of late, dropping its last three league games to IUPUI, SDSU, and NDSU.


Carson leads the Mastodon offense with 15.0 points a game and Ben Botts adds 11.0 a game to the scoring effort with a 91 percent shooting performance from the charity stripe, while Deilvez Yearby is pulling down a team-high 6.1 rebounds a game.


IPFW is putting up 64 points a game and shooting 43 percent from the floor, meanwhile, remaining very consistent with the Centenary’s season statistics.


Thursday’s meeting between the Gents and Mastodons will be the second of the year, as IPFW took a hard-fought 68-64 win over Centenary on Jan. 10, in the Gold Dome. In that game, Stallings had 18, while Jeremy Mixon of IPFW led all scorers with 20.


The Mastodons lead the all-time series, 4-1 since the 2002-03 season.
