Tough Day for Tennis

SHREVEPORT – The Centenary tennis men’s and women’s teams hosted a dual meet on Friday afternoon. The Ladies were defeated by Houston 9-0, while the Gents fell to Grambling 7-2.


For the women, seniors Courtney Myers and Kate Buchanon fell in doubles 8-1, while Stephanie Canady and Arielle Schulman were dropped in straight sets 8-0. Myers was also able to take a set from Joanna Kacprzyk in singles action, but fell 6-1, 6-0.


The Gents, meanwhile, played Grambling tough, but fell in several close matches. In doubles, Evan Magill and Jacob Dawson slipped 8-6, while Jules Bourgon and Seva Kostelanetz’s doubles match went 8-5.


Bourgon (6-4, 6-7, 10-5) went three sets with his counterpart Ryan Charles and nearly took the final set. Kostelanetz also had a close match with his afternoon foe Victor Semeroliev, but lost 7-5, 6-4.


Ladies will be in action on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. against Southeastern Louisiana on the Centenary tennis courts.
