Ladies Can't Sweep Mastodons
Monday, February 9, 2009

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – 27 turnovers put the Centenary women’s basketball team in too big of a hole to climb out of on Monday night, as the Ladies fell to IPFW, 65-57, in Summit League play.

Sophomore Anne Farrell scored nine first half points and grabbed four rebounds, but 15 turnovers, which includes two in the last 35 seconds helped give IPFW a four point margin at halftime.

The Ladies had their largest lead of five after freshman Beth Alberson hit a 3-point point field goal at 11:38. However, it was much longer before the Mastodons took a four-point lead by going on a 9-2 run.

Centenary did tie the game at 29 off of two free throws by Farrell, but the Ladies couldn’t get another shot off. IPFW, meanwhile, hit two of its shots during that point, one field goal and two free throws.

The Ladies cut their deficit down to one out of the shoot off of a senior Karolina Zaloga 3-point field goal and a few minutes later they were able to grab a lead. However, a 16-5 run by IPFW pushed the ‘Dons lead up to 10.

With 55 seconds left Ashley Jackson got the Ladies within four, but a game-ending 4-0 run by IPFW put the damper on any comeback by the Ladies.

For the game Farrell scored a team-best 19 points and she added 11 rebounds, while Jackson chipped in with 10. For the Mastodons, Eva Ivanova scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to go along with Jordan Zuppe’s and Chelsey Jackson 14 and 12 points respectively.

The next action for Centenary will be on Saturday against Western Illinois at 3 p.m. with the pregame show starting at 2:45 on and 91.3 KSCL in Shreveport/Bossier.
