Ladies In Middle of the Pack

ELMHURST, Ill. – With the release of the 2009 preseason poll, the Centenary women’s golf team is predicted to finish seventh according the 10 Summit League head golf coaches.

 

Oral Roberts was the unanimous favorite to repeat as the overall winner with nine first place votes and 81 total votes, while South Dakota State and UMKC tied for second (63 points). Oakland (fourth 56 points), North Dakota State (fifth 44 points), and Western Illinois (sixth 41 points) were picked to finish in the middle of the pack.

 

Rounding out the conference was Centenary (36 points), Southern Utah and IUPUI (tied with 24 points), and IPFW (18 points).

 

This season the ladies will rely heavily on experienced veteran Jessica Garza who led the ladies in the fall with an 80.2 stroke average, and newcomer Jessica Marquart who recorded an 81.5 stroke average, to try to compete for a top spot. Marquart, a junior transfer from Nicholls State, will be the only newcomer to the Ladies team this season, solidifying a roster of experienced seniors who will look to contend for the league title.
