From the Backcourt: Chase Adams
Thursday, February 12, 2009

Well, it’s my turn to write our blog. My name is Chase Adams and I am a junior point guard for your Gents basketball team. We are coming off of a road trip that took us to Indiana and Michigan.

Last week was tough for us because we lost two games and with wins we would have been in third place. The game on Saturday at Oakland was intense because in the last meeting we won by 20. It was their homecoming week and my family came up to watch me play. I had a good performance but it wasn’t enough to pull the game out. We had lost our focus in critical moments in the game and on the road that can’t happen, especially playing an elite team with experienced players. Slowly but surely we are gaining respect, and soon enough Centenary will be noticed as one of the premier teams of the league.

This new coaching staff came into an unpromising situation, with many disadvantages. Some how, some way they have been able to lead us through a challenging schedule and molded us into relentless competitors. We have traveled down a long road to this point with 14 road games to start the season and losing a lot of close games. The upside of this is we are still learning and yet we are in position to make history. We know we can compete with each team in the conference, our confidence is high and when we get to the conference tournament we will be sure to make a lasting impression.

The basketball team has been anticipating this week for a while and it will definitely be one of the highlights of the year. Homecoming week is filled with festivities and events that are sure to bring excitement to our campus. Our school spirit is something that we use to lack but now it‘s growing higher than ever before. We have been thankful for all of the support so far and we know that this week could bring one of the largest crowds that we have had in a while.

As far as the basketball team is concerned, we want to make sure that we give the people something to be proud of. We have been working hard all season and it is evident that we are making extreme improvements from last season. With two wins this week we would bring us to 7-7 in conference play and put us in the middle of the conference standings. We have lost our last three games in conference so we are hungry for a win.

I know we won’t disappoint with our effort and thanks for all of your great support.
