ELMHURST, Ill. – After capturing a pair of wins over I-20 rivals Grambling and Louisiana-Monroe last week, Centenary freshmen Lindsey Smith and Hillary Phillips received The Summit League’s Hitter and Pitcher of the Week honor.

Smith wins the award for the first time after belting two home runs in as many games lifting Centenary to a pair of wins. The freshman from Dallas, Texas, went 4-for-6 (.667), with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs last week.  Smith also swiped two bases against Grambling. She has hit four homers and collected six RBIs in the last four games for the Ladies.

Phillips, meanwhile, wins the weekly award for the second time after shutting out Grambling. The freshman right-hander scattered two hits over seven scoreless innings, striking out nine and walking two.  She held Grambling to a .091 batting average and hasn’t allowed an extra base hit in 14 innings.

“I am proud of the individual and team effort from last week,” said head coach Mark Montgomery. “We have been playing very well and I am excited to come south to Florida and play some big schools from the ACC and SEC.”

The Ladies next game will be on Tuesday against Central Florida at 3 p.m. and Wednesday they travel to Stetson for a 5 p.m. first pitch.
