SHREVEPORT—The final two regular season games have come, as the Centenary men’s basketball team hosts North Dakota State on Thursday at 7 p.m. and South Dakota State on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Summit League action held at the Gold Dome.

Centenary (7-21, 5-11 Summit) is in a must-win situation for the final seed in The Summit League tournament. Two home victories over NDSU and SDSU would secure the Gents a spot in the tournament held in Sioux Falls, SD in March.

The Gents are coming off a Saturday night loss against Southern Utah, 79-68. Trailing by 10 at the half, Centenary couldn’t manage to regain its shooting touch falling to 5-11 in Summit League play. Maxx Nakwaasah finished the game with a career-high 19 points and seven rebounds, but it just wasn’t enough to overcome the Thunderbird’s sharp shooting.

Guards Nick Stallings and Chase Adams continue to pace Centenary with 15.0 and 14.7 points per game, respectively. Gary Redus II contributes with 11.5 points per contest. Stallings pulls down a team-best 6.2 rebounds, while Adams has dished out 131 assists this season.

As a team, Centenary is averaging 63 points and 30 rebounds per game. The Gents are shooting 39.4 percent from the floor and lead the league in steals per contest with 8.9.

NDSU (21-6, 14-2 Summit) is currently leading the league and has officially secured a spot in the tournament. The Bison are coming off a 77-69 win over non-leaguer, Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Saturday. In that game, Mike Nelson led with 22 points and eight rebounds.

On the season, Preseason Player of the Year, Ben Woodside paces the Bison offense with 22.5 points a game, meanwhile, teammate Brett Winkelman adds 18.1 points and 7.0 rebounds to the mix. Nelson chips in with 12.3 a contest.

NDSU, as a skillful shooting team, is knocking down over 81 points a game and pulling down 35.5 boards. Its 50 percent field goal shooting leads the league.

SDSU (12-17, 7-9 Summit) meets the Gents on Saturday. They will play Oral Roberts Thursday before heading to the Gold Dome. In its last game, the Jackrabbits fell 66-62 to Cal Poly in non-league play on Saturday.

Garrett Callahan’s 16.3 points per game and Clint Sargent’s 14.2 a game lead SDSU this season. Anthony Cardova adds 11.4 points, while Kai Williams pulls down a team-high 7.3 boards each outing.

The Jackrabbits shoot 44 percent from the floor and average 70 points a game, meanwhile, swiping 34 boards each contest.

NDSU leads Centenary in the all-time series, 3-0 after handing the Gents a 68-53 loss in Fargo, ND, back on Dec. 6. Centenary, however leads the series over SDSU, 2-1, but fell in its last meeting in Brookings, SD, on Dec. 4, 71-58.

Centenary is looking to snap its seven-game skid and win its first in the month of February. For complete game coverage, tune in locally to KSCL 91.3 FM and for all live action.
