SHREVEPORT-With just over a week of preseason training behind them, the Centenary men's soccer team edged Letourneau, 2-1, in an exhibition game held at Mayo Field on Monday afternoon.

Centenary allowed Letourneau to take a 1-0 lead after a Trey McLaughlin goal reached net just over Gents junior goalie Rennie Walker at the 4:11 mark.

The Gents challenged Letourneau as they scored two goals later in first half, which proved to be all they needed to secure the win. Sophomore Aaron Bergman tied the game at 15:45 off a free kick and sophomore Ryan Christianson found the back of the net on a rebound off a corner kick at the 32-minute mark.

Much of the second half was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams as Centenary played almost the entire final half with a man down due to a red card violation.

Centenary put up a total of 19 shots led by freshman Ethan Miller with four. Letourneau had eight shots on the game.

Goalies Walker, senior Cole Campbell, and freshman Robbie Ramirez combine for four saves, while Letourneau keeper Kyle Davis had three saves.

"We were just trying to get our feet on the ground and play well in this first opening exhibition match of the season. We had to play most of the second half with a man down, but we managed to fight through it," said Head Coach David Orr.

The Gents will take on UT-Tyler, Thursday at 7 p.m. at Mayo Field in the final exhibition match of the preseason.
