Freshmen Score to Send Ladies Home With Second Win

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.-For the second game in a row, freshmen Courtney Morris and Allison Rucinski scored to give the Centenary women's soccer team a 2-1 edge over Arkansas-Little Rock on Sunday afternoon.

Centenary (2-0) has opened up the 2009 season with two consecutive wins and have had very strong play from several newcomers.

The Ladies jumped ahead early when Morris scored her second collegiate goal at the 11:38 mark. Sophomore Katie Valdez found Morris on a cross-pass from about 30 yards out to make it a 1-0 game.

Midway through the first half, Arkansas-Little Rock's Rachael Maina scored to tie the game.

Centenary responded in the 73rd minute as sophomore Chelsea Granger found Rucinski to break open a 1-1 game and send the Ladies home with their second victory of the season.

Senior Kate Donnelly was in goal all 90 minutes with seven saves, as the Trojans put up 19 total shots. The Ladies put up 11 shots of their own, two of which found goal.

Valdez led Centenary with three shots and one assist, while freshman Kelly Fossard had two shots on the game.

The Ladies will be back in action when they host Prairie View A&M on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Mayo Field.
