Tough Night for Volleyball, Ladies Drop Three to ORU
Sunday, September 20, 2009
TULSA, Okla.-Sophomore Jaclyn Lopez had a team-high 19 assists and 15 digs, but it wasn't enough as the Centenary women's volleyball team dropped all three sets to Oral Roberts in Summit League play on Saturday.

The Ladies (2-10, 0-3 Summit) fell to the Golden Eagles 28-26, 25-17, and 25-7.

In set one, Centenary opened up with a kill by sophomore Jennifer Kunze and two kills by freshman Christina Fellows, but Oral Roberts was able to respond and tie the set at 7-7. Again, the Ladies would take a short lead on two kills and a service ace by Brianna Kern, but the Golden Eagles wouldn't back down, evening the score at 13-13.

After a back-and-forth match with the six lead changes, Centenary had the chance to win set one after a kill by freshman Blair Claypoole, as she put the Ladies up 24-22. Though, Oral Roberts used four final kills and two Centenary errors to win set one in dramatic fashion.

Two consecutive kills by Fellows began set two, but the Golden Eagles tied it at 2-2 and held on to the lead for the rest of the set. The Ladies got within two at 17-15, but couldn't overcome four straight points to wrap up the set for Oral Roberts.

Set three didn't go Centenary's way as it fell down early and struggled, allowing Oral Roberts to go on a 10-0 run to ultimately break the set open. The Golden Eagles posted a .615 attack percentage with 16 kills and no errors in the final set to win the match.

As a team, the Ladies combined for 31 kills, led by Fellows with eight. Behind Lopez in digs (15) was junior Bethany Kern with nine.

The Ladies will return home for a non-conference showdown with Grambling on Tuesday at 7:00 pm in the Gold Dome.
