Strong Showing at Maroon & White Intrasquad Meet
Monday, September 28, 2009

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary swimming intrasquad meet was an impressive showing by both teams, as the Centenary White defeated the Maroon squad, 183-182 on Saturday.

In 22 events, the Ladies Maroon team tallied 99 points to the White's 81. Freshman Laura Huning etched her name in the top 10 all-time, representing the Maroon team well with a top finish in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 54.82.

Classmate Haley Schneider took hold of the top spot in the 100 yard butterfly, finishing in 1:02.13 taking over tenth all-time in that event.

Despite placing third in the 50 yard back stroke, freshman Kate Rivers' (30.60) time was good enough to move her up in the top 10.

On the men's side, the White team dominated with a score of 102 to the Maroon's 83.

A strong performance by newcomer Josh Scott on the White in the 100 yard backstroke (54.82) gave him a first place finish as well allowing him to take over ninth all-time.

Freshman Ross Olivier also moved into the top 10 in that event with a time of 25.63 and a second place finish for the Maroon squad. Sophomore Peter Henry and senior John Cefalu each won two individual events on the day.

Newcomers were the highlight of the day as four of the nine individual women's events were won by a fresh face. For the men, it was the returners who stepped up and performed to expectation.

"We are happy with the overall energy of the meet", said Centenary swimming coaching staff of Butch Jordan and Joe Ferguson.

"It is exciting to attend a meet and have standing room only. We would also like to thank the other Centenary College sporting teams that showed up to support us."
