Ladies Cut Five Strokes, Finish in Seventh

HUNTSVILLE, Texas-The Centenary women's golf team (338-333, 671) cut five strokes off its first round score to finish in seventh place at the Sam Houston's Elkins Lake Fall Women's Golf Classic on Tuesday.

The tournament was stopped after 36 holes due to wet course conditions after three days of rain. Tuesday morning, the final three holes of the second round were completed from Monday and then the event was suspended.

The Ladies finished the par-72 course 95 shots behind tournament winner, Central Arkansas (285-291, 576). Sam Houston State (302-302, 604) took home second, while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (298-308, 606) finished in third.

Senior Jessica Marquart ( 80-75, 155) shot a team-low 75 in the second round to finish in a tie for 18th. Behind her was freshman teammate Kyndal Rose (81-82, 163) in 32nd place.

Freshman Claire Whitis (86-83, 169) trimmed off three shots to finish in 36th place, while classmates Justine Kemp (91-93, 184) and Rachel Grinnell (92-97, 189) finished 42nd and 44th respectively.

Central Arkansas' Rebecca Sorenson (69-68, 137) led the way in the women's field with a 7-under over two rounds.

Centenary will return to play on November 1-3 at the McNeese Fall Invitational.
