SHREVEPORT-The Centenary volleyball team took a 3-0 match win over Southern University on Tuesday evening in non-conference action.

The Ladies swept the Jaguars in three straight sets 25-14, 25-17, and 25-18 to improve to 4-16 on the season.

Set one proved to be the most competitive match from the start as the Ladies saw themselves down before a kill by freshman Mackenzie Hubbard tied the score at 6-6. From then on Centenary never trailed, going on a mid-set 6-0 run led by two service aces by sophomore setter Jaclyn Lopez to go up 16-9.

A 15-kill effort led to a .323 attack percentage for the Ladies in the opening set.

In the early going of set two, Centenary set the pace when sophomore Brianna Kern had seven straight serves. The Ladies used four kills by freshmen Blair Claypoole and Christina Fellows to extend the lead, 8-2.

Though, the Jaguars made 3-0 midway through the set, it wasn't enough to overcome their early deficit. To secure a set two-win, the Ladies scored six straight points on four kills from Lopez and Hubbard.

An even more impressive .412 attack percentage and 18 kills occurred in the second set for Centenary.

The Ladies trailed for the opening go of set three until three serves by Hubbard paced a 3-0 run to tie the set up at 7-7. Within three, the Jaguars attempted to narrow the Ladies' lead, but two late attack errors by Southern gave way for a sophomore Melissa Reed kill to end the set.

As a team, Centenary tallied 47 kills to Southern's 19 led by Hubbard with 12. A match-high 38 assists by Lopez controlled the offensive tempo for the Ladies. Defensively, junior Bethany Kern had 17 digs as the team garnered 43 to the Jaguars' 28.

The Ladies will be back in action on Saturday when they host Oral Roberts in Summit League play at 7 pm in the Gold Dome.
