SHREVEPORT-The Centenary women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 double overtime thrill to Western Illinois in Summit League play on Friday evening at Mayo Field.

Playing in their final Friday home match, the Ladies (9-4-1, 1-3-1 Summit) six seniors saw a well-played match end in favor of the Leathernecks (5-7-2, 2-3-1 Summit) in 110 minutes of play.

Just six minutes into the match, Western Illinois' Allison Smyth netted goal off a free kick to put the Fighting Leathernecks up 1-0.

Off the bench, Hisa Turner entered the game and in less than one minute, sophomore Katie Valdez found the freshman on a corner kick, which resulted in a headed ball into the bottom right corner to tie the match at one apiece.

It remained a 1-1 stalemate for the rest of the second half. By the end of regulation, Centenary had tallied 13 shots, while Western Illinois had 21.

There was no score change through the first 10 minute overtime, which sent the teams onto the final minutes of play.

Western Illinois struck first at the 106:5 mark when Abby Davis sent a shot towards goal that reached net just over senior keeper Kate Donnelly's head to give the Fighting Leathernecks the win.

Busy in goal was Donnelly, as she made 15 total saves on the evening. Laura Atkinson for Western Illinois made six.

The Ladies put up 16 shots to the Fighting Leathernecks' 28 led by Valdez with 10, five of which were on goal. Senior Lauren Stanley tallied three shots, while senior Kristine Weaver, junior Katie Depew and Turner each had one.

Centenary will take the field for its final home match on Sunday when it host IUPUI at 11 a.m.
