CEDAR CITY, Utah-The Centenary women's volleyball team couldn't overcome a strong offensive performance by Southern Utah in a 3-0 loss to the Thunderbirds on Saturday evening in Summit League play.

The Ladies fell to 4-22 and 0-15 in league play with the loss with four final matches left this season. They dropped set one, 25-16, set two 28-26, and set three 25-14.

Despite controlling its offense with nine kills and just one first set mistake, Centenary battled a .410 attack percentage and 20 kills by Southern Utah, falling 25-16 in the opening set.

The second set proved to be the most competitive as the Ladies out attacked the Thunderbirds with 14 kills to 12 kills, but 14 errors gave way to a nail-biting 28-26 set two fall.

In the third and final set, Centenary struggled to keep the match alive allowing Southern Utah to use a .467 attack percentage and 17-kill effort to send the Ladies home with a 3-0 loss.

The Ladies tallied just 30 kills to the Thunderbirds 49. Centenary sophomore Jennifer Kunze had a team-high nine kills. Sophomore setter Jaclyn Lopez had 20 assists. Defensively, the Ladies had 38 digs as junior libero Bethany Kern had a team-high nine.

Centenary will head home before making the short commute down I-20 for an in-state non-conference match against Louisiana Tech on Tuesday at 7 pm.
