The Centenary women's basketball team kicks off the 2009-10 season at Louisiana Tech on Friday at 7:30 pm in Ruston, Louisiana. Under new head coach Bojan Jankovic, the Ladies look for an exciting and challenging non-conference schedule in preparation for Summit League play.

"We are very excited about the start of our season. The matchup against Louisiana Tech will be a great one as we face a very powerful Lady Techster team," said Jankovic.

"The Ladies are ready to play, so we expect us to compete and play an overall good game. We are using this part of the schedule to prepare us for the Summit League tournament down the stretch."

Ladies Look for Strong Opening
The Ladies enter Friday's contest having played no exhibition games up to this point. Louisiana Tech is coming off an early exhibition win over Incarnate Word where Shanavia Dowdell sank 23 points in the win.

Fresh Start for Jankovic
Bojan Jankovic will lead his first game as Centenary's head coach after spending the last three seasons as an assistant in the Ladies' program. A fresh start with help from assistant coach Kristen Davis, these two are anxious and ready to play.

Seniors Ready to Lead
Senior leadership is present for the Ladies as four year letterwinners, Bethany Joseph and Leslie Forest are accompanied by Natasha Draganic and Michaela Berg, who made Centenary home last season.

Top Scorers Return
Juniors Anne Farrell and Ashley Jackson return as Centenary's leading scorers from a year ago. Farrell paced the Ladies with 8.7 ppg and 7.0 rpg, while Jackson averaged 8.4 ppg and 4.3 rpg. Sophomore Beth Alberson also returns in the guard position, sinking a team-high 28 three pointers for a leading 35 percent from behind the arch.

High Hopes for Newcomers
The Ladies welcome four newcomers: guards Vashni Sharp Moore, Stephanie Barrow, Donecia Cook and forward Jalena Sanders, all of which hail from the state of Louisiana.

Scouting Louisiana Tech
Louisiana Tech is a top competitor in the WAC after having a 21-13 season last year with a 12-4 record in conference play for a first place finish. Head coach Teresa Weatherspoon returns after leading this team down the stretch. The former two-time Kodak All-American led LA Tech to a combined mark of 118-14 during her playing days in the 1980s. The WAC Champions return their two top players in Player of the Year Shanavia Dowdell (16.1 ppg/9.1 rpg) and First Team All-Conference player Adrienne Johnson (15.5 ppg/7.1 rpg).

Series vs. Louisiana Tech
Friday's contest marks the third meeting between these two squads. With a successful past, Louisiana Tech leads the series 2-0. The last meeting was in 2002-03 when the Lady Techsters defeated the Ladies 97-47.
