CENTENARY at SOUTH DAKOTA STATE

The Gents will face the Jackrabbits of SDSU on Saturday, Jan. 2 at 7:30 pm.

LAST TIME OUT
FARGO, N.D.-Despite an early game lead, the Centenary men's basketball team fell to North Dakota State, 82-70, on New Year's Eve in Summit League action. The Gents (5-8, 1-2 Summit) had four of their five starters reach double-figure scoring, led by sophomore Maxx Nakwaasah, freshman Daman Starring and junior Roman Tubner each with 14, while senior Jerrald Bonham added 13.

OFFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS
Offensively, the Gents are scoring 76.5 ppg, but are allowing 84.4 ppg from their opposition. Centenary is shooting 43 percent (324-758) from the floor and averaging 8.7 three-pointers a game. The team is dishing off 14.2 assists per game. Perez is leading the Gents with 18.2 ppg and 50-58 (.862) from the free throw line. Junior Roman Tubner is contributing with 12.1 ppg, while dishing off a team-high 47 assists. Starring is third in scoring with 10.8 ppg and second in assists with 35.

DEFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS
Defensively, the Gents are holding their opponents to just 6.1 three-pointers made a game. They are also out stealing their opposition with 8.0 steals per contest to 7.8 by their opponents. Tubner leads with 23 steals, while Starring follows with 17. Bonham paces Centenary with 5.0 rebounds a contest and 12 total blocks.

A DAY OF DOUBLES
It may of ended in a loss, but Centenary had four players reach double figure scoring in the fall at NDSU on Thursday. Nakwaasah, Starring, and Tubner each had 14 points, while Bonham added 13. It was the 17-0 run midway through the second half that propelled the Bison over the Gents after Centenary had the upper hand early.

ROAD TOUR CLOSING IN
The Gents are set to play their last away game for at least a week after hitting the road back on Dec. 13. Saturday's game will mark the fifth straight contest on the winter road tour for Centenary before hosting IPFW and Oakland next week in the Gold Dome.

REACHING 400
Perez is just in his second season at Centenary and has joined elite company with his 400th career point in a 73-68 win over Louisiana-Lafayette on Dec. 28. The New Iberia, La. native is leading the team in scoring with 18.2 ppg and has reach double-figure scoring in all but two games this season. Perez has tallied 237 points after scoring 165 in his rookie season.

BONHAM BLOCKS INTO BOOKS
Bonham secured ninth place on the all-time block list in the double-overtime loss to Louisiana Tech on Dec. 12. He currently has 52 blocks. The Plano, Texas native is coming off a 17-block season just last year and has totaled 12 blocks already this season. He is now striving to catch Lincoln Abrams and George Lett with 60 all-time.

SCOUTING SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
South Dakota State is coming off a 72-70 win over Oral Roberts on Thursday. The Jackrabbits are now 6-8 overall and 2-1 in the league.

Garrett Callahan is averaging in double figures with 12.9 ppg, while Clint Sargent is also in double digits with 10.6 a game. Kai Williams chips in with 9.1 ppg, while leading the team with 5.2 rebounds a contest. As a team,
SDSU is scoring 73.1 ppg and pulling down 34.6 rpg.

SERIES VS SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
Centenary and South Dakota State will meet up for the fifth time in history on Saturday. The Gents own the all-time record of 3-1 over the Jackrabbits since the 2007-08 season. The two teams split the series last season with Centenary earning the win in the last matchup, 77-67, in the Gold Dome on Feb. 28. In that game, Nakwaasah garnered a double double of 14 points and 10 rebounds
