SHREVEPORT-The Centenary women's basketball team faced a tough Oakland Golden Grizzlies squad on Saturday evening, falling 75-32 in Summit League action.

The Ladies (1-15, 0-5 Summit) couldn't overcome a strong offensive night by the Golden Grizzlies, falling in their fifth straight league contest.

Oakland went up 3-0 before Centenary's Anne Farrell put the Ladies on board. The Golden Grizzlies wouldn't allow the Ladies to get any closer as they produced a quick 14-0 run eight baskets in the paint.

Down 17-2, freshman Stephanie Barrow hit a mid-range jumper to give Centenary just its second bucket of the half. It was 11 Ladies turnovers within the first 10 minutes that sparked a strong offensive threat by Oakland.

Junior Ashley Jackson hit back-to-back buckets to chip away at Oakland's lead, making 19-8. The last bucket proved to be Centenary's last made basket of the half as the Golden Grizzlies finished on an impressive 16-0 tilt, taking a 34-8 lead at halftime.

Centenary came out with a much better second half, scoring four points on lay ups by Jackson and Farrell. Senior Michaela Berg added to the mix, hitting two treys within a two-minute span, making it a 43-20 game.

However, Oakland took advantage of several missed opportunities to add to its lead, hitting 10 straight points. Freshman Vashni Sharp Moore executed a three-point play to end the surge down by 30 (53-23) with 11 minutes remaining.

Jackson hit a free throw following another run (7-0) by Oakland. It became a 38-point game with under eight minutes to play as the Ladies continued to battle a solid offensive night by the Golden Grizzlies.

The Ladies got down by as many as 40  (68-28) with four minutes to play. Oakland was able to close out the remainder of the game despite a four-for-four effort from the free throw line by Jackson.

Centenary shot 27 percent (10-of-37) from the floor led by Jackson with 14. Berg had seven, while Barrow and Farrell added four.

Oakland was better from the field at 47.5 percent (28-of-59). Melissa Jeltema had a game-high 24 points, while Hanna Reising added 12 to the win.

The Ladies committed 24 turnovers and the Golden Grizzlies scored 23 points off the mistakes.

Centenary was out rebounded 40-24 on the night as Jackson had a game-best nine rebounds.

The Ladies will be back in action on Monday as they host IPFW in the Gold Dome at 7:00 pm.
