PREVIEW: Gents To Host SAGU Lions

Centenary will wrap up its non-league schedule, hosting SW Assemblies of God on Tuesday at 7:00 pm in the Gold Dome.

LAST TIME OUT
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-A late second-half offensive surge by IUPUI sent the Centenary men's basketball team home with a 74-58 loss on Saturday afternoon in Summit League play. The Gents (6-12, 2-6 Summit) fell in their third straight league contest as IUPUI (13-7, 6-1 Summit) picked up its sixth of the season. Freshman Daman Starring led for the second consecutive game with 15 points. Sophomore David Perez finished with 12 and freshman Pedro Maciel added 10.


OFFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS

Offensively, the Gents are scoring 71.5 ppg, but are allowing 82.2 ppg from their opposition. Centenary is shooting 41 percent (425-1026) from the floor and averaging 8.2 three-pointers a game. The team is dishing off 13.4 assists per game. Perez is leading the Gents with 16.6 ppg and 60-71 (.845) from the free throw line. Junior Roman Tubner is contributing with 11.4 ppg, while dishing off a team-high 54 assists, while freshman Daman Starring adds 10.5 ppg to the mix.

DEFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS

Defensively, the Gents are holding their opponents to just 6.1 three-pointers made a game. On the boards, the opposition out rebounds Centenary, 40.1 to 30.4. Tubner leads with 32 steals, while Starring follows with 23. Bonham paces Centenary with 4.9 rebounds a contest and 17 total blocks.

HOME STRETCH BEGINS
Centenary will begin a four-game home stretch on Tuesday, while playing in its last non-league game of the season. Currently, the Gents are 6-12 and 4-4 at home. In games at home this season, Centenary has had three players score 25 points or better (Tubner-30, Perez-27, Starring-27). The Gents have also tallied at least 90 points as a team in four of the eight contests for an average of 83.2 ppg.

NON-LEAGUE
FINALE
Playing in its last non-league game of the season, the Gents will host SW Assemblies of God on Tuesday. Centenary is 4-6 against non-Summit League teams. The Gents earned a win (73-68) over Louisiana-Lafayette in their last contest on Dec. 28. This game will wrap up a solid non-league schedule as the Gents played teams from the Big East, Big 12, SEC, Southland, and WAC.

BONHAM BLOCKS INTO BOOKS; NEEDS 3 TO MOVE UP

Bonham secured ninth place on the all-time block list in the double-overtime loss to Louisiana Tech on Dec. 12. He currently has 57 blocks. The Plano, Texas native is coming off a 17-block season just last year and has totaled 17 blocks already this season. He is now striving to catch Lincoln Abrams and George Lett with 60 all-time.

SCOUTING SW ASSEMBLIES OF GOD
SW Assemblies of God is a member of the Red River Athletic Conference and the NAIA. The Lions will play Centenary, holding a 4-10 record and a 1-4 record in their conference. The last contest for SAGU came on Saturday in an 87-80 loss against University of the Southwest. The Lions opened the season with cross-town college, LSU-Shreveport, falling 79-93.

As a team, SAGU averages 67.4 ppg and 32.6 rebounds a contest. Ronald Horne paces the Lions with 12.1 ppg, while Matt Allbritton adds 11.4 ppg to the mix. On the boards is Jon Black with 9.1 rebounds a game.

SERIES VS SW ASSEMBLIES OF GOD
Centenary and SW Assemblies of God will meet for the first time in the school's history on Tuesday. The Gents did face Texas College earlier this season, which plays the Lions in the Red River Athletic Conference. Centenary beat Texas College 95-76 at home, while SAGU dropped its contest to Texas College, 77-64 on Jan. 9.
