SHREVEPORT-The Centenary men's basketball team faced a hot shooting Oral Roberts team, dropping its Saturday evening Summit League contest, 87-56 in the Gold Dome.

The Gents (7-13, 2-7 Summit) finished with two players in double-figures, led by freshman Daman Starring with 19 points, while classmate Matt Marseille added 12 off the bench.

Centenary saw its early 4-3 lead disappear after Oral Roberts (11-10, 6-10 Summit) produced an impressive 19-0 run on five treys to go up 22-4 with 12 minutes to play. During that run, the Gents didn't see a field goal for nearly six minutes until Swartz laid the ball up for two.

Swartz would knock down two free throw attempts before the Golden Eagles scored seven consecutive points to increase its lead to 21 (31-10). Freshmen Matt Marseille and Pedro Maciel provided Centenary with a little offensive boost, combining for six points, but a 12-1 tilt for Oral Roberts followed.

The Gents used three free throws late in the half by sophomore David Perez and junior Roman Tubner, however, it was the Golden Eagles' defense that held Centenary to a low 18 points in the opening 20 minutes. Oral Roberts led 50-18 at the break.

Despite being held to an 0-6 effort from behind the arc in the first half, Perez opened up play with a long ball just 15 seconds in.

Centenary put together a 7-0 run of its own, denying the Golden Eagles a basket for over three minutes. Though, when Oral Roberts finally found the bottom of the net, it responded with a 12-3 tilt for a 64-31 lead with 12:15 to play.

Starring would drain two treys and a mid-range jumper, but Oral Roberts would counter that attack with five consecutive points. Marseille would also contribute near the five-minute mark with a long ball of his own.

With less than three minutes to play, Centenary and Oral Roberts exchanged three-point baskets as Marseille and Starring hit for the Gents. Trotman pulled down a board and had a put back, while freshman Leo Davis added a free throw to close out the contest.

Centenary shot 34 percent (18-53) from the floor, while Oral Roberts finished the night off with a 56 percent (29-52) performance. Behind Starring and Marseille in scoring was Perez with eight.

Five players reached double digits for Oral Roberts, led by Warren Niles with 17 points, followed by Michael Craion with 14 points. Kyron Stokes and Javier Nasarre added 13, while Dominique Morrison chipped in with 10.

The Gents didn't hit a three in the first half, but finished with six on the night for just 29 percent, while the Golden Eagles were astounding, knocking down 15-of-24 for 63 percent.

Centenary managed to only pull down 25 boards to Oral Roberts' 41. Trotman led the Gents with eight boards off the bench, while Craion had eight for the Golden Eagles.

The Gents will return to action on Thursday when it hosts South Dakota State at 7:00 pm in the Gold Dome.
