PREVIEW: Ladies at Oakland

LAST TIME OUT
FORT WAYNE, Ind.-The Centenary women's basketball team experienced a tough afternoon of shooting, falling to IPFW, 68-28, on Saturday in Summit League action.
The Ladies (1-22, 0-12 Summit) were led offensively by freshman Jalena Sanders with 10 points off the bench, while junior Ashley Jackson added six. Centenary dropped its 12 league game of the season in the loss.

OFFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS
Offensively, the Ladies average 46.3 points per game, while allowing 74.9 ppg. Centenary is shooting just .330 (362-1096) from the floor and dishing off 9.3 assists. The key struggle for the Ladies is their 26.2 turnovers a game. Through 23 games, junior Ashley Jackson is the only player scoring in double figures with 10.7 ppg. Senior Bethany Joseph adds 8.2 ppg, while junior Anne Farrell chips in with 7.5 ppg respectively.

DEFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS
Defensively, Centenary averages 6.3 steals per game and pulls down 31.9 rebounds a contest. The Ladies have also tallied 65 blocks this season led by Jackson with 30. Farrell paces Centenary with a team-high 6.4 rpg, while Jackson contributes with 6.0 rpg and has a team-best 32 steals through 23 games.

SOLID SANDERS
Freshman Jalena Sanders recorded a career-high 10 points and tied her career-best with six rebounds on Saturday in a 68-28 loss at IPFW. Sanders finished the contest at 5-7 from the field.

FOREST FINDING A WAY
Leslie Forest has stepped up and played well since her early season injury. In two of her last four games, the senior has led the team in scoring and executed her second double-figure scoring game of the season and just fourth of her four year career. She has also been solid on the boards with a double-double (18 p/13 r) and a team-best 11 rebounds against IPFW on Saturday.

STILL SEARCHING
The Ladies are still searching for its first league win of the season. With an 0-12 mark among league opponents, Centenary will play six more league games, two of which will be at home in the Gold Dome.

FARRELL ON BOARD AT 500
Farrell is working her way up the record books each game. The junior center has broken into the top three all-time. Farrell has tallied 135 blocks this season. With 547, she is 8 away from the second place spot with 555 by Zebber Satcher.

FOREST TAKES OVER TOP SPOT
Senior Leslie Forest is now Centenary's all-time leader in blocks with 87 all time. In 13 games this season, Forest has tallied 14 blocks. Forest had a season-high three blocks against North Dakota State on January 30.

SCOUTING OAKLAND
Oakland will meet Centenary with an 11-12 overall record and an 8-4 mark in league play. The Golden Grizzlies saw their three-game win streak snapped by visiting Oral Roberts on Saturday as Oakland dropped an 91-87 contest.

The Golden Grizzlies are averaging 67.7 points per game and pulling down 37.6 rebounds a contest.

Melissa Jeltema is leading Oakland with 14.9 ppg and 7.4 boards a contest. She is followed by teammate Beth Watterworth with 13.2 ppg and 6.1 rpg.

SERIES VS OAKLAND
Oakland seems to have a strong grip on Centenary with a 15-0 all-time series record since the 2004 season. The two teams have already met once this season as the Golden Grizzlies dropped the Ladies in a 75-32 contest on January 9 in the Gold Dome. In that game, Ashley Jackson led Centenary with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Melissa Jeltema had a game-high 24 points.

Centenary will return home for its final home games of the season to host Western Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 5:00 pm and IUPUI on Monday, Feb. 15 at 7:00 pm in the Gold Dome.
