Tennis Splits at Arkansas-Pine Bluff

PINE BLUFF, Ark.-The Centenary tennis teams battled Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday afternoon as the Ladies defeated the Lady Lions, 3-2, while the Gents fell 7-0 to the Lions.

On the women's side in singles action, Catlin Orschel and Alexis Smith won by default, while Isadora Bickham took her match, 6-1 and 6-1. Also competing for the Ladies was Holden Penney and Polly Henderson, who each dropped their matches, 6-0/6-0 and 6-2/1-0 retired respectively.

In doubles play, Penney and Orschel won by default, while Bickham and Henderson lost 8-4.

On the men's side, Jacob Dawson played to three sets, but fell 5-7, 6-3 and 1-0. Sam Grace (6-2, 6-4) dropped his singles match, while Micah Threadgill (6-3, 6-3) showed some strong play despite falling.

Also competing for Centenary in singles action, but dropped the match was John Reeks (6-0, 6-0), John Callen (6-1, 6-2), and Evan Magill (6-0, 6-1).

In doubles play, Magill and Dawson showed well, but couldn't hang on for a win, falling 8-5. Grace and Threadgill (8-0) and Reeks and Callen (8-0) were held scoreless in the loss.

Centenary will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 18 at home against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
