PREVIEW: Swimming Wraps Up Season at League Championships

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary men's and women's swimming teams will take part in the Summit League Championships held in Indianapolis from Thursday-Saturday.

The Ladies and Gents have performed well over the year after rostering several veteran swimmers and welcoming new faces that have proved to be solid contributors throughout the season.

With the absence of a diving team, Centenary is always faced with the initial challenge of points, but head coach Butch Jordan is confident in his 2009-10 squads.

"As in the past, Oakland is just too strong for us to challenge them overall but I do think we will challenge in some relays and individual races for championships. On the men's side we hope to hold onto our 2nd place finish of the last three years. Though, on the women's side we are down a little from last year competing with only 15 women so we have quite a challenge there," said Jordan.

Centenary will execute its strengths of speed as it heads to IUPUI's nationally recognized facility.

"We are looking forward to fast swimming. It should be fun watch the kids swim fast.  We really look forward to competing at such a historic facility as IUPUI's pool has been the site of many national events, Olympic trials and World trials.  It is awesome to have this pool in our conference," said Jordan.

Over 50 swimmers make up Centenary's two teams as eight seniors and three juniors along with five sophomores and 13 freshmen make up the men's squad. While the Ladies roster four seniors, two juniors, 11 sophomores and five freshmen.

"We do look for our upperclassmen to lead the way.  They have shown good leadership all season and we expect that to be multiplied at Indy," said Jordan.
