PREVIEW: Ladies Basketball at ORU

The Centenary women's basketball team will travel to face the Golden Eagles of Oral Roberts on Saturday, February 20in a 7:05 pm contest.

LAST TIME OUT
SHREVEPORT-It was an all-around solid effort by the entire Centenary women's basketball team as it wrapped up its home schedule with the first league win and first victory in the Gold Dome this season, defeating IUPUI 67-57 on Monday evening in Summit League action.

The Ladies (2-24, 1-14) were led offensively by junior Ashley Jackson and senior Bethany Joseph each with 19 points, while freshman Vashni Sharp-Moore finished with 13.

OFFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS
Offensively, the Ladies average 47.3 points per game, while allowing 73.3 ppg. Centenary is shooting .338 (414-1226) from the floor and dishing off 9.7 assists. The key struggle for the Ladies is their 25.7 turnovers a game.

Through 26 games, junior Ashley Jackson is the only player scoring in double figures with 10.6 ppg. Senior Bethany Joseph adds 8.8 ppg, while junior Anne Farrell chips in with 7.5 ppg respectively.

DEFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS
Defensively, Centenary averages 6.5 steals per game and pulls down 31.5 rebounds a contest. The Ladies have also tallied 82 blocks this season led by Jackson with 32. Farrell paces Centenary with a team-high 6.4 rpg, while Jackson contributes with 5.8 rpg and has a team-best 35 steals through 26 games.

ENDING ON A GOOD NOTE
Centenary ended its home slate with a 10-point (67-57) win over IUPUI for its first home win of the season. The victory was also the first Summit League win for the Ladies this season. Centenary also shot a season-best 51.2 percent (22-43) from the floor and 55.6 percent (5-9) from behind the arc.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
The Ladies will wrap up its 2009-10 schedule on the road for the last three contests. After meeting ORU on Saturday, Centenary will travel to Southern Utah on Feb. 27 and UMKC on March 1.

JOSEPH'S TREYS EARN HER TOP SPOT
Senior Bethany Joseph again, proved to be one of the best three-point shooters to ever play at Centenary as she finished 4-6 from behind the arc in the win over IUPUI on Monday. With her five treys made in the previous game vs Western Illinois, Joseph secured the top spot all-time in 3-Point Field Goals Made by any Ladies player.

She has accumulated 172 three-pointers made in her four-year career.

FARRELL ON BOARD AT 500
Farrell is working her way up the record books each game. The junior center has broken into the top three all-time. Farrell has tallied 135 blocks this season. With 547, she is 8 away from the second place spot with 555 by Zebber Satcher.

FOREST EARNS 100TH BLOCK!
Senior Leslie Forest reached the 100-block mark on Monday, Feb. 15 against IUPUI with one swipe. Forest has tallied a 24 blocks this season and a season-best seven blocks against Oakland on Feb. 8.

SCOUTING ORAL ROBERTS
Oral Roberts is looking to build on its two-game win streak as it holds an 18-8 overall record and a 12-3 mark in Summit League play. The Golden Eagles are 7-1 at home against league opponents and haven't lost in the Mabee Center since IPFW took a 74-72 win on January 9.

The Golden Eagles are averaging 85.5 ppg and are pulling down 40.3 boards a contest. Kevi Luper is pacing ORU with an impressive 25.7 ppg. She is followed by teammate Jaci Bigham with 17.4 ppg and Jordan Pyle with 11.2 ppg. Janae Voelker adds 10.9 ppg and pulls down a team-best 8.2 boards each game.

SERIES VS ORAL ROBERTS
Centenary and Oral Roberts will meet for the second time this season and 14th time in history this Saturday. The Golden Eagles own a 12-1 overall record over the Ladies dating back to 2004. Centenary earned its only win over ORU on January 21, 2009 in a 67-56 victory in the Gold Dome. The last meeting between the two teams came in a 95-65 win for ORU on January 23.
