Turnovers Costly in Ladies Loss

TULSA, Okla.-The Centenary women's basketball team struggled offensively and was forced into a season-high 47 turnovers, falling at Oral Roberts 95-38 on Saturday evening in Summit League play.

The Ladies (2-25, 1-15 Summit) out rebounded Oral Roberts 52 to 39 and were led offensively by junior Anne Farrell and senior Michaela Berg with six points.

The Golden Eagles opened with a 12-0 run and held Centenary scoreless until senior Leslie Forest's lay up found the bottom of the net at the 16:40 mark.

Oral Roberts stayed solid offensively, producing 19 straight points within a five-minute span, before Berg would drain a three off the bench for the Ladies at the 8-minute mark to make it a 31-8 game.

Again, the Golden Eagles went on a run (7-0) to go up by 30 (40-10) until Berg would hit another trey with two minutes to play in the opening half.

After a three by freshman Megan Daniel, Oral Roberts ended the half on an 8-0 run after connecting on a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line to take a 51-16 lead at the half.

The Golden Eagles continued to fire off makes with nine straight points before the Ladies would see a change in the score. Senior Bethany Joseph's jumper narrowed the deficit to 44 (60-16).

A lay up and free throws by senior Ashley Jackson and a jumper by junior Sarah Weiler gave the Ladies a boost, however a 12-0 tilt followed by Oral Roberts, allowing them to go ahead by 53 midway through the half.

Despite another three, this time by Joseph, Oral Roberts took its largest lead of the game at 61 (95-34) with 3:04 remaining. Free throws by freshman Vashni Sharp-Moore and a lay up by Farrell wrapped up the game.

Centenary shot 22.8 percent (13-57), while Oral Roberts was better at 46.8 percent (36-77).

Behind Farrell and Berg in scoring for the Ladies was Joseph with five.

For the Golden Eagles, Kevi Luper had a game-best 31 points, while Janae Voelker had 14 points and Jaci Bigham added 13.

Jackson led Centenary in rebounding with eight, while Forest pulled down seven boards.

Centenary will play at Southern Utah on Feb. 27 at 6:00 pm (ct).
