Ladies Gym Talk: Alyssa Zawieja
Monday, February 22, 2010
Starting this week where Maille left you off, the Ladies competed against the Mizzou Tigers this past Sunday, March 13. Due to surprise snow storms the Tigers were unable to fly into Shreveport so the Friday meet was pushed back to Sunday. This was a great opportunity for us to grab another chance to practice before the meet.

We set up the equipment for the meet after the Gents last basketball game in the Gold Dome, and realized how much help we get from maintenance, swimmers, baseball and other helpers. The meet was set up to be the Ladies Think Pink meet, where helpers from Susan G. Komen and the local girl scouts promoted awareness for breast cancer. The Ladies and the Tigers showed their support for the cure by wearing pink during the competition.

We started off on vault, where Amanda Holt and Alyssa Zawieja both scored a 9.65 respectively on the vault. On the bars Makensie Lant scored a 9.7, the highest on the event for the Ladies and placing third in the competition. On beam Jessica Lieblich placed third with a fantastic 9.8 performance. Moving onto the last event, Whitney Daugherty scored a 9.6 on the floor. Our team total was 189.800.

On Thursday we traveled to Chicago to compete against the University of Illinois Chicago. Friday the Ladies went up against the UIC Flames. We toured the city of Chicago, which was a lot of fun and was fascinating to see all the sky scrapers. We also went to the Shedd aquarium where we saw numerous interesting sea creatures.

At our meet, Amanda Holt tallied a 9.725 on the vault, placing her third in the competition. Makensie Lant place fifth on bars with a 9.600 and Marisa Schneider placed second on beam with a beautiful 9.650 routine. Whitney Daugherty and Melody Smith tied for first on the floor with a 9.725.

The Ladies have off for the next two weekends, and are going to step into the gym and get down to work. We have some things we would like to improve and are looking forward to working hard in making that happen!
