ELMHURST, Ill.-Centenary infielder Keegan Acker and right-handed pitcher David Benson garnered the first Summit League Player and Pitcher of the Week accolades after leading the Gents in a three-game set against No. 2 LSU this past weekend.

Despite falling in all three games, Acker proved to be a key hitter in all three games, while Benson threw a gem in the final game of the set.

Acker captured Player of the Week honors after hitting .400 against No. 2 LSU last week. The junior had four hits in 10 at-bats with three runs scored and three walks. In game one, Acker recorded a hit, walk, stolen base and a run scored against preseason All-American Anthony Ranaudo. The Redmond, Wash., native had a hit in all three games with a .538 on-base percentage.

"Keegan had an outstanding weekend for us against LSU's top pitchers. Even though, we didn't get the desired outcome, he did a fantastic job for us in the leadoff spot," said head coach Ed McCann.

Benson earns the first Pitcher of the Week award this season after pitching 5.0 innings of one-run baseball against defending national champion and No. 2 ranked LSU. The junior allowed just six hits with two strikeouts in the five innings of work for a 1.80 ERA in game three of the series.

"David held a very solid hitting LSU team to just one run and that alone, proved to be special. We expect to see a lot more out of him the rest of the season as we vie for a conference championship," said McCann.

Centenary will host Grambling State this weekend beginning on Friday at 4:00 pm at Peyton Shehee Stadium.
