SHREVEPORT-After playing No. 2 LSU in its opening weekend, the Centenary baseball team will host Grambling State in a four-game series at Peyton Shehee Stadium in two scheduled double-headers beginning on Saturday.

The Gents (0-3) will play the Tigers on Saturday with the first game set to begin at 2:00 pm. They will then meet Grambling on Sunday in a double-header at 1:00 pm. The four games were scheduled to begin on Friday, but expected rain has moved the games to Saturday and Sunday.

Centenary is coming off an overall solid series with the Tigers of LSU despite dropping all three games. Junior Keegan Acker led the way offensively for the Gents batting .400 (4x10, 3 R), while senior Cliff Shepard (5x13, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Tell Ross (4x11, 3 R, 3 RBI) performed well at the plate with .385 and .364 averages through three games, respectively.

On the mound, junior David Benson held LSU to one run on six scattered hits in Game 3 of the series for a 1.80 ERA. Junior Boone Whiting also threw well in the season opener, allowing two earned runs in 4.2 innings of work for a 3.86 ERA.

Because of the strong play, Acker and Benson were recognized as Summit League's Player and Pitcher of the Week.

Grambling (0-4) meets Centenary having dropped all three games during opening weekend at Stephen F. Austin and fell to in-state rival, Louisiana Tech, 20-3 on Tuesday evening.

The Gents and Tigers met twice last season as Centenary took a 12-5 win over Grambling on March 31 as sophomore Seth Lugo picked up the win. The Tigers then came to Shehee Stadium 14 days later and defeated the Gents, 5-2, as Lugo suffered the loss.
