RUSTON, La.-The Centenary softball team dropped its mid-week contest, 9-1, to in-state rival, Louisiana Tech in five innings on Wednesday evening in non-conference action.

The Ladies (4-7) produced one strong inning where they connected on all three of their hits to plate one run. At the plate, senior Haley Bassett (1x2) drove in a run, while freshmen Callie Herrington (1x2) and Kelsey Regan (1x1) each picked up a hit.

Louisiana Tech went up 6-0 after a lead off home run and five hits over the first two frames. After being shutout in the first two innings, the Ladies had its strongest chance to make a move when Regan opened up the third with a single to center field. Freshman Bailey Boggs entered to pinch run for Regan, stole second and was moved to third when Herrington reached on an infield single.

With runners at first and third, Centenary's Bassett drove in Boggs on a base hit to left field for the Ladies only run of the night, but two consecutive strike outs ended the chance

Centenary was then held scoreless for the next two innings as Louisiana Tech plated three final runs in the fifth on a three-run home run after a single and a walk to end the game in five.

Junior right-hander Sara Dornelas (4.1,8,9,6,3,2) got the start and suffered the loss after tossing 4.1 innings, allowing six earned runs on eight hits, while fanning two.
