NATCHITOCHES, La.-The Centenary baseball team wasn't able to find its offensive groove in Wednesday night's non-conference contest at Northwestern State, falling 11-2.

The Gents (4-4) managed to put up only six hits, while the Demons (6-2) connected on 11 as Centenary tossed eight different pitchers.

Leading the way offensively for Centenary was junior Scott Pasket with a 2x3, one RBI performance, while senior Cliff Shepard belted his second home run of the season. Senior Michael Tompkins (1x3) and juniors Cody Atkinson (1x4, R) and Keegan Acker (1x3) each had a base knock.

The Gents took an early lead at 1-0 after Pasket's doubled to right center scored Atkinson, who broke open the second inning with a hard single up the middle.

In the bottom half of the inning, Northwestern State plated a run of its own when Eric DeBlanc led off with a triple, followed by an RBI-fielder's choice.

The Demons shut down the Gents in the third before taking a 3-1 lead on a two-run home run by Stephen Gandy.

Shepard trimmed the lead to one (3-2) on a solo shot to dead center field to continue his eight game hit streak. However, Northwestern State continued to plate runs as they combined for seven over the next two frames to go up 10-2.

Centenary stranded two runners in the seventh with two final strikeouts before the Demons went on to score one final run in the eighth.

Junior righty Justin Kraft (1.0,1,0,0,2,1) got the start but received a no-decision after 1.0 complete inning. Tompkins (0-1) (2.0,3,3,3,1,1) took over in the second and third, allowing three runs on three hits for the loss.

Also seeing action out of the pen was senior Jimmy Hoyt (0.1,1,2,2,2,0), freshman Cole Thompson (1.1,3,4,4,2,0), junior Derek Dalzell (0.1,1,1,1,1,0), senior Dakota Robinson (1.0,0,0,0,0,2), freshman Trey McGee (1.0,1,0,0,2,0) and junior Stephen Tromblee (1.0,1,1,1,0,1).

Centenary will return to action this weekend when it hosts Gonzaga in a three-game set at Shehee Stadium. Game times are Friday (6:30 pm), Saturday (2:00 pm) and Sunday (Noon).
