PREVIEW: Baseball Welcomes WCC Gonzaga to Shehee Stadium

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary baseball team will welcome the Gonzaga Bulldogs from the West Coast Conference to Shehee Stadium for a three-game set this weekend. The series will begin on Friday at 6:30 pm, followed by a single game on Saturday at 2:30 pm and Sunday at Noon.

The Gents (4-4) are coming off a hard 11-2 loss at in-state rival, Northwestern State on Wednesday. Centenary wasn't able to find any offensive momentum, while the Demons did.

Leading the way offensively for the Gents is senior Cliff Shepard with a .424 batting clip. He also paces Centenary with 14 hits, 25 total bases, three doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI. Junior Scott Pasket follows with a .367 average, while classmate Keegan Acker posts a .333 clip and a team-best 13 walks for a .579 on base percentage. Also hitting above .300 is junior Alex Todd at .333 and senior Tell Ross at .300.

On the mound, Centenary is led by junior right-hander and recent LSWA Pitcher of the Week, Boone Whiting with a 1.42 ERA and a 1-0 record. Whiting paces Centenary with 12.2 innings pitched with 11 strikeouts. Reliever Dakota Robinson owns a 0.00 ERA with a team-high five appearances, while righty David Benson has a 1.64 ERA and a 1-1 mark after 11.0 innings tossed. Right-hander Justin Kraft is also throwing well with a 2.08 ERA and a 1-1 record after four game appearances.

Gonzaga enters the weekend series with a 2-3 overall record after dropping its last three contests. The Bulldogs are led offensively by Andy Hunter with a .524 average, 11 hits, three home runs and 11 RBI. Drew Heid is batting .455, while Sean Wilson and Royce Bolinger own a .368 clip.
