SHREVEPORT-The Centenary baseball team was challenged once again with a solid Gonzaga offense, falling in the series finale, 9-2, on Sunday afternoon at Shehee Stadium.

The Gents (5-6) connected on 10 hits, however the Bulldogs finished the day with 16 knocks and forced Centenary into five errors. Senior Cliff Shepard led the Gents offensively, going 2x2 with an RBI and two walks, while junior Keegan Acker was 3x5.

Also earning a hit for Centenary were juniors Alex Todd (1x5, R), Cody Atkinson (1x4), Scott Pasket (1x3, R), senior Michael Tompkins (1x4) and freshman Ryan Bell (1x4, RBI).

Junior righty David Benson (1-2) (5.0,8,3,2,3,5) was tagged with the loss after tossing 5.0 complete innings, allowing two earned runs on eight hits, while fanning five.

Benson was able to shut down Gonzaga in the first with two fans before the Bulldogs would plate the first run in the second on three hits. Gonzaga pitcher Reedy Berg had a handle on the Gents for much of his outing, holding Centenary scoreless for the first five innings.

The Bulldogs would add another run in the third and one in the fourth on five hits and an error.

Centenary's Shepard would drive in Todd for the first run of the game for the Gents on a shot down the right field line.

However, Gonzaga would escape the inning without anymore damage and pick up five more runs over the next three frames for a 9-1 lead.

Pasket would lead off the ninth with a walk, stole second and was advanced to third on a throwing error which allowed Bell to drive him in on a deep double to left center for Centenary's second run of the game.

Out of the pen for the Gents were juniors Stephen Tromblee (1.0,0,0,0,1,0), Derek Dalzell (1.0,4,3,3,0,0), seniors Dakota Robinson (1.0,1,1,1,0,0), Tompkins (0.1,3,2,2,0,0) and sophomore David Perez (0.2,0,0,0,0,0).

Centenary will return to action on Thursday when it hosts Texas College at 6:30 pm at Shehee Stadium.
