ELMHURST, Ill.-Centenary's Lauren Highsmith was tabbed as Summit League's Pitcher of the Week after helping the Ladies to a 3-1 record last week, including the series win over league foe, Oakland.

Highsmith is the first Centenary player to be recognized with a weekly award this year. The junior tossed 8.2 innings of relief, appearing in three of the four games. She gave up no runs on just three hits, while fanning nine, while holding her opponents to a mere .111 batting average.

The Houston, Texas native earned her first win of the season after tossing 4.2 innings in relief on Saturday against Oakland, allowing no runs on no hits and fanning seven. Highsmith entered the game with Centenary down 4-0 to the Golden Grizzlies. She was able to hold them scoreless the remainder of the game as the Ladies came from behind and won on a walk-off home run by junior Sara Dornelas.

With the solid outing last week, Highsmith lowered her ERA to 5.25 through 18.2 innings pitched.

"I am so proud of Lauren. She pitched extremely well after having fought through diversity," said head coach Mark Montgomery.

"Let's hope great things come after such a solid and successful week."

Centenary improved to 8-10 on the season and 2-1 in league play. The Ladies will travel to Louisiana-Monroe on Wednesday for a 6:00 pm contest before hosting North Dakota State at home this weekend.
