"Meadowview Day in the Park" a Huge Hit for Gents Baseball

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary baseball team once again proved its commitment to the Shreveport-Bossier community by hosting "Meadowview Day in the Park" last week.

The event welcomed Meadowview Elementary school to Shehee Stadium, home of the Gents, to a pre-game celebration prior to last week's contest with Texas College.

Centenary players and coaches took part in the event, allowing students to gain full access to the team's facilities and batting practice. The students were split into teams and were given an assignment to complete, before meeting and garnering the players' autographs.

Emcee and local product senior Dakota Robinson entertained the anxious young crowd with facts about the sport of baseball and Shehee Stadium. The youngsters also received a singing performance of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" by head coach Ed McCann and several newcomers over the PA system.

The Gents also shared their love for baseball with the students by allowing them to run the bases before beginning their pregame warm up.

Centenary is no stranger to the local elementary school as the Gents baseball team helped tutor students from Meadowview earlier this semester for the local standardized LEAP test.

This volunteer service initiative is one of many that the baseball team has taken part in since the beginning of the school year.
