Gents and Faitz Lead Pack After Day 1

HAUGHTON, La.-Senior Nick Faitz's 3-under helped the Centenary men's golf team to a first place standing after Day 1 of its own Hal Sutton Intercollegiate, posting a solid two-round, team score of 587 at Olde Oaks Golf Club.

The Gents were in second after their opening round of 292, but bounced back with an even-par and one-under to take over the lead after 36 holes with a 295 in round two.

Faitz (70-71) leads all golfers with a 141total for first place.

Also performing well for Centenary was sophomore Denver Green (74-72, 146) cutting two strokes off his first round score to finish in a tie for fifth heading into Day 2.

Junior Cannon Earp (73-76, 149) sits in a tie for seventh, while junior Greg Berthelot (75-76, 151) and senior Mark Weeber (78-84, 162) are tied for 13th and 28th, respectively.

Competing as individuals for the Gents is junior Ryan Sparks (83-76,159) in a tie for 25th and freshmen Jay Frazier (82-80, 162) and Chris David (81-90, 171) tied for 28th and in 36th.

Centenary paces the pack with Binghamton (290-301) in a close second, four shots out of the lead with a two-round 591. McNeese State (295-298) rounds out the top three with a 593 total.

Houston Baptist (299-306, 605) is in fourth, North Dakota (305-317, 622) in fifth and South Dakota (318-306, 624) is in sixth.

The tournament will conclude with its final round on Tuesday with an 8:30 am shotgun start.
