Faitz Hangs on for Win, Gents Take 2nd

HAUGHTON, La.-Senior Nick Faitz produced a solid 75 in the final round of play to capture first place with a three-round even par in the Hal Sutton Intercollegiate, while the Centenary men's golf team took second with a three-round total of 887 held at Olde Oaks Golf Club.

The Gents fell five shots shy of first place as Binghamton (290-301-291) fired an 882 to take top honors in the team awards. Behind Centenary's (292-295-300) 887 and second place finish was Houston Baptist (299-306-290) who shot a Tuesday low-290 to place third, eight shots behind the Gents with a 895.

Behind Faitz (70-71-75, 216) for Centenary was sophomore Denver Green (74-72-73, 219) in a tie for third, while senior Greg Berthelot (75-76-76, 227) finished 13th overall.

Junior Cannon Earp (73-76-82, 231) tied for 16th, while senior Mark Weeber (78-84-76, 238) tied for 24th. Playing as individuals for the Gents was junior Ryan Sparks (83-76-78, 237) in a tie for 22nd, while freshmen Jay Frazier (82-80-83, 245) and Chris David (81-90-80, 251) tied for 31st and placed 34th, respectively.

McNeese State (295-298-306, 899), South Dakota (318-306-308, 932), and North Dakota (305-317-327, 949) finished fourth, fifth and sixth.

Jake Katz of Binghamton (72-72-74, 218) finished as the tournament runner-up behind Faitz.

Centenary will return to action on April 12-13 at the Jim West Intercollegiate hosted by Texas State.
