PREVIEW: Baseball Returns Home, Hosts UT-Pan American

SHREVEPORT-After battling #10 Arkansas this week, the Centenary baseball team will return home to host UT-Pan American in a three-game set at Shehee Stadium this weekend. The Gents are set to play Friday at 6:00 pm, Saturday at 2:00 pm and Sunday at Noon.

The Gents are 8-12 overall and 7-4 at home and are looking to snap a two-game skid after dropping both games to the Razorbacks (18-2, 9-4) on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Centenary is led offensively by senior Cliff Shepard with a solid .368 average and a team-best 28 hits and 21 RBI. As everyday players, junior Alex Todd (.282), senior Tell Ross (.284) and now freshman Trey McGee (.296), these three are nearly the .300 mark as Centenary is posting a .260 team average through its first 20 games.

On the bump, the Gents are led by starter Boone Whiting with a 3.03 ERA and a 1-1 record. The junior has pitched a team-high 29.2 innings and struck out 39. Also in the rotation, starter Justin Kraft owns a 5.00 ERA and a 1-3 record through 27.0 innings, while junior David Benson has compiled a 5.83 ERA and has a 2-2 record in 29.1 innings.

UT-Pan American enters the weekend series with a 9-8 overall record and an 0-4 clip on the road. The Broncs are led offensively by Garrett Bivone with a .492 average and 23 RBI. Vincent Mejia follows with a .407 clip.

On the mound for UTPA, Cody Plunk leads the team with a 2-0 record with a 2.57 ERA, while Doug Roth is 1-1 with a team-low 2.45 ERA.

As a team, the Broncs are holding their opponents to a .258 average, while hitting a solid .316 through 17 games.
