PREVIEW: Softball Prepares for Western Illinois

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary softball team will host Western Illinois in Summit League action this weekend beginning with a double-header on Friday at 4:00 pm and a single game on Saturday at Noon.

The Ladies are coming off a rescheduled game against Central Arkansas and a tough weekend at Southern Utah, dropping two of their three games to the T-Birds, falling to 9-21 overall and 3-9 in league play.

Centenary is led offensively by junior Sara Dornelas with a .325 clip and a team-best 25 hits, while senior Allison Shepperd follows with a .284 average and nine doubles to pace the Ladies.

On the mound, Dornelas has seen the majority of the innings, tossing 109.1 for an 8-14 record and a 4.29 ERA. Also seeing time on the mound are sophomore Reggie Salvatore (0-2, 6.79 ERA), and juniors Lauren Highsmith (1-2, 7.99 ERA) and Courtney Avery (0-3, 11.67 ERA).

Centenary and Central Arkansas will meet for just the 23rd time as the Fighting Leathernecks own the slight edge over the Ladies at 12-10.

The last meeting between the two teams came in a 9-0 loss for Centenary in the Summit League Championship on May 8 of last season.

Western Illinois will enter the weekend series with a 20-12 overall record and a 6-0 clip in league play. The Fighting Leathernecks are coming off a 4-2 non-conference win over Bradley on Monday.

Beth Golitko leads the way offensively with a .378 clip, while Lauren Furgala and Julie Depolo posts a solid .364 and .360 average, respectively.

Kamren Ferguson has seen 118.2 innings this season with a team-best 11-7 record and a 2.18 ERA. Lauren Pankratz owns a 1.93 ERA and a 6-4 record through 69.0 innings tossed.

Following the weekend series, Centenary will travel to Stephen F. Austin for a single game on Wednesday at 4:00 pm before hosting Central Arkansas on Thursday at 5:30 pm.
