Gents Cut Strokes, Finish 8th

VICTORIA, Texas-The Centenary men's golf team battled back and cut 12 strokes off its second round score to finish in eighth place with a team score of 924 at the Jim West Intercollegiate hosted by Texas State University.

The Gents opened with a 308 and 314 in their first two rounds and finished with a 302 in their final round.

Senior Nick Faitz (76-77-74) shot a three-round score of 227 to finish in a tie for 25th as Centenary's top finisher.

Sophomore Denver Green (77-78-77, 232) stayed consistent to finish 38th, while junior Greg Berthelot (82-79-75) and senior Mark Weeber (75-80-81, 236) tied for 45th, respectively. Rounding out the Gents scores were junior Cannon Earp (80-83-76, 239) in 50th and junior Ryan Sparks (83-79-79, 241) tied for 53rd as an individual.

University of Texas-Arlington (281-281-289, 851) took team top honors, while Sam Houston State (285-297-291, 873) finished in second, 22 shots back. Rice (299-292-290, 881) rounded out the top three.

Bryce Easton (69-71-69) was the tournament winner with a two-day score of 209.

Centenary will travel to the Summit League Championships on April 26-27 in St. George, Utah, hosted by Southern Utah.
